| Name: | Rachel Grey |

| Solitude is love | |||||
Rachel is a straight canon character. she originally debuted in 'Days of Future Past', an apocalyptic glimpse into the future of the X-men. In that future most of the team was either slain or in mutant concentration camps. The camps themselves were patrolled by a mixture of soldiers and Sentinels, the latter being huge battle robots designed to contain and combat mutant super beings.
Given the size and relative destructiveness of the Sentinels, there were other means of subduing and tracking down rogue or new mutants in the ruins of the cities. Hounds. Hounds were mutants taken and raised to be hunters and trackers of their own kind from a young age. The training program was grueling, with a high mortality rate, but mutants had no civil rights in this future, and so death toll was a negligible thing. Rachel Grey was one of those unlucky enough to be in the program. She was captured when the X-mansion originally fell, at about the age of five. She was an exemplary subject, rising through the years until she was the best. Literally. The Hound used to display the merits of continuing the project to military leaders. She has a psionic arsenal that made her an excellent tracker. It was near impossible to hide from every aspect of her mind. If she couldn't trace your thoughts, or impede your path, she could follow the fear you projected. And increase it.
There was a problem, though. Hound head quarters were targeted by resistance fighters, crippling and eventually ending the program. All assets that were left alive were consigned to living in the concentration camps. It was expected that the prior Hounds would not live long given their distinctive markings and behaviors versus the contained mutant's hatred of the 'gene traitors'. Rachel, though, held a psionic illusion over her marks at all times and was taken in by teh remains of her family, the X-men. In time they learned what had happene dto rachel, and while alone with them she felt safe enough to drop the illusion upon occasion, but this was rare. It was mainly with Kitty, her surrogate mother, that she truly felt safe.
The X-men, or what remained of them, came to the conclusion that their horrid future could be prevented if a single event in the past could be altered. The mind of Katherine Pryde was snet pack psionically to take over teh body of her younger self during the crucial time period. Such a use of mutant ability, though, alerted the sentries and the team remaining had to fight free, and keep the body of Katherine (now holding the sleeping mind of the younger Kitty) alive long enough for he rmind to achieve their goal. Rachel witnessed, and felt, the deaths of each individual in the small family she ran with Katherine's body, each death marking a few more minutes bought...
Katherine succeeded. It took time for the time ripples to reach the future though, and so Rachel witnessed the death of Katherine as well, the noble woman dying to buy Rachel a few more minutes alive. Minutes Rachel would rather not have had alone. Not when the one person she could truly say she loved was gone...for she had loved Katherine with the desperation of any lost child. And while she 'dated' Franklin Richards while in the camps, and certainly sought comfort in him...she questioned her own worthinessa nd humanity too much to love him as deeply.
She watched the world end. High atop a ruined sky scraper, she watched reality ripple and rush forward in a wave of light that destroyed everything it touched. And she couldn't let go. She'd invested too much of herself in sending Pryde's mind to the past, linked too strongly to fade away. between one instant in teh next she was lost, but not dead. She panicked.
Jean Grey, as Dark Phoenix, had recently been killed by the combined might of the X-men and the Shi'ar empire. The Phoenix force was loose and drawn to the Grey bloodline that came hurtling through time. All in all, Rachel handled the Phoenix a little better than Jean had. She had worked far too hard to start defining 'herself' to lose it to a force. rachel didn't go 'dark' upon landing in the past.
She survived.
And met the X-men.
I'm bringing her in a week after her arrival. Scott has left the team in mourning and does not know about the arrival of his future daughter. Jean is dead and rachel is intent on proving that her mother wasn't the monster that dwells so darkly in teh team's thoughts...
...and she's very, very alone. The person she loved best, and depended on for guidance is a teenage girl, and Rachel isn't quite sure how to relate to anyone.
Physically, she's lean, all muscle and the barest hints of what could be curves given maturity and a better diet. Her hair is flame colored and shorn to barely half an inch of fuzz, and her face bears harsh, dark tattoos that mark her as a weapon and tool.
